Japanese Language Program
Living in a multicultural society, UOG students will find that proficiency in the language and culture of Japan will enrich their journey, both academic and personal.
A Japanese language minor boosts graduates' career opportunities by making them more marketable and educationally advantageous, especially in fields such as linguistics, secondary education with an emphasis on language teaching, international business/tourism, and engineering.
Graduates with a Japaense language minor have become Japanese language teachers in secondary schools on Guam, ESL teachers, and professionals working for local Japan-affiliated companies and the tourism industry. Others have pursued advanced degrees, including studies in Japan.
Mastering Japanese fosters personal enrichment by enhancing enjoyment of Japanese pop culture, such as anime, manga, and video games. It also facilitates experiences such as shopping in Japanese stores or traveling and living in Japan.
The program sharpens students' communication skills, enabling effective interactions with native speakers, improving their interpersonal abilities, and expanding their horizons. This promotes self-confidence and fosters a lifelong curiosity about languages and cultures.
